From the very beginning, Nuendo was created to handle any kind of audio task within the media industry. In the latest 2.0 version, the Nuendo software delivers a complete media production system, designed with the needs of the user in mind and meeting the demands of working professionals in all genres of the audio industry: post-production for film and television, broadcast pre-production, music production and composition, surround, game sound and multimedia.

Innovative Multi-channel Architecture:
From input to final mix, Nuendo 2.0 is all about surround, with an advanced multi-channel architecture through the entire signal path. Every input, audio track, effect return, group and output now offers up to 12 discrete channels, ready for full-scale 5.1, 7.1, or even 10.2 productions. To make routing in the project even more transparent, Steinberg has developed a range of tools including a new way of organizing physical inputs and outputs and dedicated surround panning devices in all relevant points within the audio signal path. Several input and output busses can be utilized at the same time, with any type of configuration possible - mono, stereo or any of a wide range of surround formats - and any track can be routed to and from any of these buses.

Brand New Mixer Environment:
Nuendo 2.0 offers the most flexible mixing experience in digital media production. Its 32 Bit floating point mixer has been completely re-engineered and now features full plug-in delay compensation, real effect returns as well as phase reverse and input gain change per channel. Another innovation is the ability to create any number of the new input busses, which now enable the user to write effects directly into the recorded file if desired. The new architecture allows for recording in either split or interleaved surround audio file formats and makes managing a surround project easier than ever before - Nuendo 2.0 always keeps track of which part of the signal chain is multi-channel and which is simply stereo or mono. Patch editors or panning devices are available wherever matching between different channel formats is needed.

Openness of the System:
Nuendo 2.0 features compatibility with other systems, with support for all of today's major file and exchange formats. Not only were AES 31 and OMF support upgraded and OpenTL updated to version 3.0 but also new formats like Windows Media Audio and the optional export to DTS have been included. Nuendo is better equipped to exchange projects with systems by other manufacturers than most competing audio workstations. Naturally, Nuendo also features flawless import of Cubase SX projects. In addition Nuendo supports SONY 9-Pin, ReWire, and Steinberg's VST System Link, a technology which allows the user to increase the real-time processing and mixing power by simply adding as many Macs, PCs, desktops or laptops to the system as needed. The standard network access built into Nuendo 2.0 supports recording to, as well as copying and playing back from dedicated servers or other workstations: all that's needed is TCP/IP LAN. Combining separate Nuendo 2.0 projects is no problem, either - a Merge Project function fuses tracks from one project into another.

User Customization:
Nuendo 2.0 allows for fully personalized project setups. If there is no need for MIDI functions in a particular mix, for example, all MIDI controls can be hidden for each track to suit the user's personal way of working. Nuendo 2.0 not only offers the option to define which buttons and controls should be displayed on tracks, and in which order, Nuendo 2.0 also allows the user to hide single functions or complete feature areas from the menus for a better overview and more efficient workflow. This concept is also extended to the configurable mixer and the user-definable tool and transport bars. Together with the option to personalize key commands, window layouts and user preferences, Nuendo is fully adaptable to the user's needs.
