Digidesign is shipping the MIDI I/O, a multi-port MIDI peripheral with 10 MIDI inputs and outputs that features a programmable hardware through mode, allowing users to simultaneously patch any input to any combination of outputs without accessing a computer.
MIDI I/O connects to the computer via a self-powered USB connection, and includes support for the upcoming Digidesign Time-Stamping feature for timing accuracy and precision—alleviating MIDI timing and jitter issues that might be caused by a computer.
Although it is designed for Macintosh-based Pro Tools systems, MIDI I/O works with any OMS-compatible sequencing application. With Pro Tools, up to four MIDI I/O peripherals can be connected simultaneously for a total of 40 I/O ports, providing access to a total of 640 MIDI channels.
