Manifold Labs has debuted Plugzilla, the first-ever standalone VST plug-in player. Plugzilla combines the power and flexibility of Steinberg's open VST platform with the reliability and mobility of a quiet, 2U rackmount chassis and an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. Plugzilla by Manifold Labs is distributed exclusively by Eventide.
"Plugzilla is one of those 'Why didn't I think of that' products," explained Eventide chief technology officer, Tony Agnello. "It creates a new dimension for the use of plug-ins in a wide range of audio applications."
Capable of running nearly any PC-based VST plug-in, including VSTi instruments, Plugzilla can run up to eight plug-ins simultaneously. Internal flash memory allows thousands of plug-ins and plug-in sets to be stored, while additional storage is made possible through USB and compact flash memory card ports. Meanwhile, eight snapshot memories facilitate the creative process by allowing for fast and easy comparisons of different effects.
Plugzilla's processing can run 32 channels of reverb, while the unit's Hot Knobs make macro-routing and/or automation of parameters quick and easy. Rear-panel connections include 24-bit/96 kHz S/PDIF and four channels of balanced XLR I/O. Also available are four footswitch inputs and connections for up to 32 MIDI channels. A list of compatible plug-ins and a preliminary list of plug-ins included are available at the Plugzilla website.
