A modular Future Retro in XS

Thursday January 19, 2006. 07:58 PM, by lepetitmartien NAMM06 > Music Hardware > Future Retro
Music Hardware : A modular Future Retro in XS - macmusicFuture Retro, of 777 analogue groovebox fame, launch a 3U rack: the XS. It's a semi-modular analogue monosynth. As all semi-modulars it's prepatched so can be used a your regular growling box, but bring the cables and patch it and you can explore further or even expand an existing system. It's a CV/gate V/Oct standard synth so it will work with MIDI2CV interfaces or analogue sequencers like a good boy (Is he one? Given Future Retro, I expect a box making some big noise ;)

The single VCO is wide ranged and can be used as LFO if need be. Waveforms are: sinus, triangle, sawtooth, pulse width/square. The VCO can be FMed, both internally or from an outside source. There's a sub-oscillator running at 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16th the frequency of the main waveform. Oscillator and sub have their own output. After a mixer (VCO, sub and external source), a multimode resonant filter 12dB High Pass or Low Pass comes in, with self oscillation at higher resonance settings. The filter has it's own output too. The envelope is a weird thing. it's a classic ADSR but with additional AD settings. When triggered with a second gate signal in the accent input… Instant accent! The enveloppe outputs both positive and negative signals. A VCA is thrown in (accepts external inputs) also.

Nice little fun box in itself or used as an expander, and it can be desktoped too (end pieces to fit are on the roadmap). Release date and price TBA.
