Apogee Big Ben, a 192kHz Master Word Clock

At the Winter NAMM show, Apogee introduced Big Ben, a 192 kHz Master Word Clock that offers some innovation. For example, using proprietary Apogee technologies, the all digital C777 clock and "Adaptive Loop Filtering", Big Ben is able to intelligently minimize jitter to previously unattainable levels. With other features such as real-time format conversion, fail safe lock to external sources, termination sensing, an optional Firewire card and a wide range of I/O choices including 6 word clock outs, Big Ben is poised to create a new standard for studio digital clocking in the industry.
Ticking away at the heart of Big Ben is Apogee's C777 clock (patent pending). The C777 uses advanced Direct Digital Synthesis and DSP based filtering to manipulate incoming clock signals and convert them into usable data. This data, in turn, informs a process called "Adaptive Loop Filtering" which dynamically regenerates a stabilized, low jitter, clock source to send to other digital devices.
Along with providing considerable control over jitter, Big Ben also address the dreaded digital drop out using "SureLock". Drop out occurs when an external source literally fails to send a signal. With the vigilance of SureLock, Big Ben is able to lock on the last available frequency and keep on ticking until the failed source resumes at which time Big Ben will resynchronize without interruption.
Big Ben at a glance:
- AES,S/PDIF, Optical I/O - Word Clock/Video In - 6 Word Clock Outs
- Real-time format conversion between all digital formats
- Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) using Apogee's C777 Clock Technology up to 192kHz
- Adaptive Loop Filtering (ALF) for optimize clock performance and minimize jitter
- Optional Firewire connection to facilitate clocking and format conversion with other Firewire devices
- Fail safe lock to external sources (Sure Lock) and word clock termination sensing
- Sophisticated looking 1U rack (19?w x 1 13/16?h x 11 5/8?d ) with brushed aluminum face and led display for options interface
Availability: March of 2003
