One of our favorite Mac shareware developers is back with some huge updates to their popular audio routing and recording software.
Audio Hijack 2 is the biggest update yet to Rogue's popular audio recording tool. The upgrade is free for Pro owners or 1.65 users, and adds an entirely new interface with a new toolbar featuring built-in level meters, improved timed recording, built in Excitifer audio sweetening, post-processing options for recordings via AppleScript (like instant save to iTunes AAC), direct URL entering, automatic preset saving, dock menu, and more. You can use the software to automatically record radio programs, use any application as an alarm clock, and automatically process recordings from any OS X program. Mac musicians, aside from setting musical alarm clocks and recording their favorite Internet radio, treat Audio Hijack as a must-have for its ability to record audio from music programs that lack bounce-to-disk capabilities. US$16 shareware.
Detour 1.1, the US$12 OS X Preferences Panel that allows you to route audio from any application to any audio hardware and set individual audio levels, has added 10.1 support, screensaver redirection support, and lots of bug fixes. Detour is definitely a must-have for Mac musicians: it's ideal for live performance with multiple applications, and thanks to OS X's multiple hardware support, you can use it to route audio to different interfaces (including built-in audio outs) for headphone monitoring and multi-speaker setups.
