Burgin McDaniel Design has announced the release of their first self-branded product, the Komit which is a compressor / limiter using the API standard form factor and pin out.
Built around a balanced, floating input and output via Triad Magnetics iron, the Komit is designed for ease of use because makeup gain is automatic via a Compression control. When set to minimum, the compression ratio is 1:1. As ratio increases, the source level remains constant. A separate Output gain adjustment controls a discrete, pre-limiter analog gain stage that drives the limiter for color and effect or, can be left at unity if no further gain staging or timbral modification is needed.
Pricing on the Komit is set at $995, with the first twenty five units serialized and signed by the design team. A limited edition Producers Pack is also available, which houses two Komits in a black walnut cabinet, complete with power supply.

The new R-44 picks up where the R-4 left off — a four-channel recorder that uses SD or large capacity SDHC card storage media. It offers flexible recording options with up to four channels of uncompressed audio available at selectable bit depths (16- or 24-bit) with sampling frequencies between 44.1kHz and 192kHz (stereo mode only). Broadcast wave is also supported and two R-44s can be synced together to offer up to 8-channel recording for surround sound applications.
Features :
- 4 Channel Recording
- Up to uncompressed 24-bit / 192 kHz linear PCM (Stereo)
- Supports SDHC large capacity media
- Light-weight 1.3kg compact body
- AA batteries for 4 hours of recording
- Wide variety of input sensitivity levels
- Very usable onboard effects
- XLR and 1/4 inch TRS jack inputs
The R-44 will be available from March, price £499.

Last year SPL has launched the RackPack modular system and started with two different preamps and the Transient Designer as the first modules. This year the RackPack is extended with six new modules, so that studio and live engineers can choose from a wide variety of processors to configure individual RackPacks.
New modules :
1. Full Ranger – Graphic EQ with passive coil filters for the whole frequency spectrum
2. Bass Ranger - Graphic EQ with passive coil filters for the bass range
3. Vox Ranger - Graphic EQ with passive coil filters for the vocal range
4. TwinTube – Combined saturation and presence tube effects
5. DeEsser – Works with phase cancellation instead of traditional compression
6. DynaMaxx – set & forget compressor, updated for the RackPack-Version
