If you are the owner of a power Mac from august 2002, don't hesitate to order the exchange kit from Apple including a new power supply and a 12 cm fan. You should install it yourself which takes roughly 45 mn (as I experience it). It's not really complicated, just take your time.
The difference in terms of noise is striking, no more high frequencies noise but instead, a normal low background noise. It costs approximately $24 $ which is quite reasonable for the service.
So just go for it, and remember that thoses are the lastest machines able to boot under OS 9: with a new power supply their value for future selling will only increase!

Applied Acoustics Systems offers you the opportunity to evaluate their Tassman Sound Synthesis Studio, a modular sound design and instrument construction environment based on physical modeling. This special offer gives you unrestricted access to the Tassman's range of sounds for a full 30 days, and is exclusively available to users of MOTU's Digital Performer.
To coincide with the Tassman 30 day trail, MOTU users may purchase the Tassman from their online store until May 15th for $399, a savings of $100 dollars off the suggested retail price.
Tassman functions on both Mac OS 9.x and OS X, and as many of you are probably about to ask, will support AudioUnits in an upcoming release...
