As with many softwares Digital performer is delivered with a CD rom contaning the application itself and 2 utilities: FREE MIDI 1.4 and PATCH LIST MANAGER 1.4. The ASIO drivers are also given to allow musicians to use VST compatible sound cards and not only the MOTU/DIGIDESIGN compatible ones. To be compatible with the new MAC generation where the floppy is obsolete, DP ask for a registration number in a dialog window to be installed.

DP 2.6 uses the "multi window" system which is extremely handy (the usual full page which hides another is not very convenient). For example let's say that if you have 2 monitors with your machine, you'll be able to display the score on one monitor and your audio files on the other... Clipping is a function which stores the position of the different windows on the screen, regardless of how many you have opened and their position on the screen.

When you change a setting within the FREEMIDI or PATCH LIST applications, the changes automatically update Digital performer 2.6. You can now directly access Freemidi through a menu in Performer (available patches list). The OMS emulation can read drivers included in the OMS folder and can display the same interfaces (Studio 5 etc...). Some midi plug-ins are available. You can virtually transpose, quantize, change the velocity, and listen to the modifications without altering the originasl track. You can also group midi devices, each with its own channels and play them on the same MIDI track. Groove quantize is well implemented and you can create your own grooves from nothing or from an existing track.

| Polar Extremely innovating function, Polar is an audio recorder of a new kind. The control window shows simple indicators but the main thing is the loop recording. Everything runs smoothly in RAM and is bounced to disk after the recording. If you want to record 8 measures, you just have to set the loop start and end time, then Polar creates a new track each time the loop begins again ! You can improvise and decide which takes have to be saved. |

Sampler
This module loads the samples in RAM from Samplers connected to the MAC SCSI chain (those recognised by DP). A folder contains the samples you can drag and drop on audio tracks. You can use DP internal effets to modify samples and then send them back to the sampler. Great !

In this window, you will find a sample accurate audio editor and the list of every audio file (with their tempo, their frequency...etc).
Audio background processing allows you to do something else while the Mac is running its tasks. Soundfile analysis is implemented to improve DSP functions. Because the analysis is a long task to process you can save the results in a folder so one analysis will be only made).
The pitchshift feature gives you the ability to transpose part of a midi or audio track (no drums of course !). Pure DSP pitchshift is dedicated to monophonic files.
Time scale allows you to expand/compress a file duration and/or to synchronize it with the song's tempo. This feature can display 2 different time modes SMPTE or measures and can process in the background as well.
